Inrush and normal amp reduction.
I have a 5 ton Carrier unit, type 25HBC, with a compressor LRA rated at 132A and RLA at 26.4A. And, a fan rated FLA of 1.2A. Before installing the MicroAir soft start, I measured the total inrush current at 211 Amps, which included both the compressor and the fan. Regrettably, I didn't consider just measuring the compressor inrush. Since installing the Soft Start, I haven't rechecked the total inrush. It's been a couple of days since I installed the unit, and today recorded the App's readout. I didn't know what to expect, but was hoping for a 50% drop of the LRA. So, the inrush going from 132A rated to 34.4A, and the run current from 26.4A to 15.8A is very satisfying. I can now make a decision on which generator to buy. I wanted to install the soft start inside of the electrical compartment of the compressor, but had to move the control board to make room the the Micro Air unit. As you can see, there was just enough room to do so. I left the Soft Start input cable intake until I was confident there were no problems. I'll now cut the cable to a more appropriate length. I'm wondering if it's possible to configure the connections so that the fan inrush can also be reduced. Anyway, very happy.

Great product. Amazing support!
Great product. Amazing support! I bought the EZ Start Flex for my home AC so I could use a smaller portable generator to run my home. My 4 ton Trane AC was pulling 119 inrush amps on startup, and the unit dropped that to about 23. Pretty amazing results. The unit is so much quieter on startup too! Shortly after install, unfortunately, there was a failure of a component in the device. Using the bluetooth app I pulled the diagnostic screen and sent the data to Micro Air at 5:45am on a Friday morning. Within 5 minutes I had a text from Matteo, one of the engineers, who identified the issue, called to provide a resolution, and processed a warranty replacement with overnight shipping. Stuff breaks, but how a company handles customer service matters. Installation is very simple and any DIYer can easily handle the install. And support is available to answer any questions. The new design is very small, making installation iinside the AC electrical access panel possible. With the EZ Start I can now run my home on a much smaller generator, more than offsetting the cost of the unit. Great product. Great service. Very happy with my decision to purchase.

Works Great w/ 3-ton A/C and a Genset
I installed the EasyStart Flex in my 3-yr old, 3-ton HVAC compressor. The work took me about 90-minutes start to finish. The EasyStart Flex fit nicely under the corner-cover where the electrical components are. This house also has a 22kw Generac backup generator, and it could barely* start the A/C compressor. I couldn't measure the actual load demand but per the data label on the Compressor unit, the LRA current load is 81.4 amps. The image attached here shows two actual load snap shots, post-install, from the (wonderful!) EasyStart App. There are two screen shots. On left, is the EasyStart when it is supplied power from street utilities. The HVAC compressor now draws max of 20.8 amps (!!). On right, is the same EasyStart when it is supplied power from the Home Generator. The compressor now pulls 26.2 amps, a reduction of more than 65% from the rated LRA current load of 81.4 amps. I'm not surprised it's a little higher on geneset (technical reasons for this). Last, and while subjective, I note what others have noted - the compressor seems to run more quietly, post-installation, than it did before install.

Confusing on #4, can't get clarification
1) hard to get a response from MicroAir. Very slow. Had to call 2 or 3 times asking for a response 2) got 2 detailed guides for my install. 2nd one was an update on 1st. Don't understand the difference. Tried several times to get clarification. No response. 3) just for clarity, rather than saying "put Easy Start black with compressor common (C) [black] on the contactor behind the screwhead using...." say which contactor terminal. The pic shows terminals T1 and T2. Say "on the contactor terminal T1 behind the screwhead using..." Because you do this every day all day, you forget that most of us are not electricians or HVAC people. We still want to do it ourselves, and we're capable of doing it with just a little more clarity from your end. 4) haven't gotten clarification so haven't installed the Easy Start yet. Giving it 4 stars because that's my hope. I assume you have a great product. You just need a great tech support to go with it. From my experience, you don't have it now. You asked for my opinion. Don't ask unless you want to hear the answer.

Dead after a few weeks
I was so happy when I installed and it cut down the starting amps significantly, less noise. I thought the almost 400 bucks had been well spent. Fast forward 4 weeks, wife asking why the house is so hot. Came back home, checked the unit, brown liquid all over. I googled "Micro Air Easy-Start Flex failure", found out I am not alone. Just go read the reddit page. At first I opened a service ticket to see if micro-air would send me a replacement, until I went down the rabbit hole of all the sudden failures everyone else is having on these units, all units failing within a few weeks. Micro Air knows this and they didn't care sending a recall. Many users are posting the interactions with tech support. They know about this and they are just waiting for people to reach out instead of proactively owning their mistake. I was still on the Amazon return window, I've already placed the return order, dropping it off tomorrow.

Does not work, Support does not work
I bought this unit and installed it on a new A/C unit. When the A/C was installed the breaker tripped durning start up. Checked all connections and tried again with the same result. Contacted the A/c manufacturer and they said to contact micro-air, who asked for photos. Sent all requested information. While waiting for a response I uninstalled the easy start and the A/C worked just fine. Response from support came which said, "Install per the diagram"! No further comments or help. I reinstalled the unit and had an electrician check the 4 connections, and again the breaker trips consistently. Removed it again and the AC works fine. Declared this unit is junk. I would give it 0 stars if I could - and 1 star for the support, because they did actually get back to me even though their response was junk like their unit. Very disappointed to have wasted a lot of money.

Lasted 6 Months - Seems Common
Easy install and worked great for six months. Then the dreaded cap explosion of oil inside the unit and the voltage error. This prevents the compressor from starting up. However, does not stop the fan from coming on or the air handler to turn up. Hot air blowing for hours because the temperature inside the house was going up vs going down and the thermostat kept it all going. Ive contacted technical support and am currently in review for a replacement device. My concern is will this only last 6 months as well. I use it in conjunction with a Generac in Florida, so I need a bulletproof solution and Im growing concerned at the longevity of these units. I would like to state that the personnel at Micro Air are very nice and helpful. A shining star in a sea of black!

Reduced Inrush Amps from 138-->28!
I got this to reduce max amps on my 5Ton American Standard HVAC as part of a solar battery backup project. The goal was to get my max inrush under 50 Amps, and ideally under 30. In HVAC, I learned the term is LRA which stands for locked rotor amps. I consider myself pretty handy, but not at all a pro. I had to watch a couple of youtube videos a few times, but the install was very straightforward once all the wires were identified, and connectors were obtained. The app is primitive, but gets the job done. I went though the trouble of getting an amp meter to take measurements because I'm a skeptic. But the App will give you the max amperage at start up without having to buy a clamp meter capable of measuring inrush.

Awesome solution
Easy installation, this was installed on existing 3 ton unit that is 24 years old, have been monitoring starts for 11 days now, this is a product that delivers all that is advertised. Overall reduction in rush amperage of 56%. 65 to 28.3 amps reduction…..Quieter, no dimming of lights, works excellent with a small portable generator, MADE IN USA what is not to like…..For me to say that I am extremely pleased is actually an understatement….getting ready to order another one for my good friends who were unaware that a product like this exists…..I am originally from Hightstown and am now in NC, proud to give you my business….

It works for me
I purchased the Micro Air Easy Start Flex from a local distributor First Source Energy in July 2024. I installed the unit on a 24 year old Trane 5 ton. The LRA on the spec tag is 169. I checked the it with my amp meter and it showed 77.8 amps on startup. However this meter does not have an inrush feature so that number my not be accurate. After the five learning starts the Bluetooth app showed 43 amps. I have checked the starting amps several times with the app and it varies between 37 and 47 amps. I can now start and run my AC with my 12 KW generator which it would not do before. Great product! Easy to install.
