The first book in the duet definitely captures your attention.We are introduced to the main characters, Alex and Harper. Harper is a baker and provides a catering service. At one of her jobs is where Alex see's Harper and that is how their story begins. Throughout the story, E.M. Gayle gives us glimpses of Harper's past but does not reveal everything. There is more going on than we know and it promises to pique our interest. Yet, it gives us an idea of who Harper is and how that has led to where she is at in her life at the moment.Learning about Alex is mind boggling. His dominant nature seems to carry over into all parts of his life. Not just with women but his business and other areas of his life not revealed at this time. Oh, the author teases us with his stamina and compulsive need when it comes to Harper but there is something lying deeper. The two characters together heat up the pages but there is so much more going on that we have yet to learn. And just when things start getting to the point where you're on the edge of your seat....waiting for the acme to peak.....we have a cliff hanger. Don't get me wrong, it's the perfect point to have us holding our breaths and since I'm sure that was her goal.....she more than accomplished it.I have loyally followed E.M.Gayle through the Purgatory Club and Purgatory Masters series and couldn't wait to get my hand on What Alex Wants....He Gets. Once again she has out done herself with characters that get inside your head and find a way into your heart.

Harper and Alex both think they want a simple one night stand -- she to live out a fantasy, he because he doesn't do anything long term. But neither can forget each other and when he pursues her, the sparks do fly. Harper is sassy, submissive, and apparently masochistic. Alex is all Dom and knows just what to do with her.I really enjoyed the book. The character interactions are great. The sex is great. Both characters have some significant backstory that is mostly hinted at, rather than thoroughly developed, but I'm hoping for more of it in the second book. From what happens here, it seems to me that we will be needing those backstories. I have a couple of issues with mention of an event that apparently happened before the book started and is referred to as if the reader should know something about it already, but that's relatively minor. We do get the general gist of why it's important.This book is the first half of their story, to be continued (I hope) in July, because this ends on a significant cliffhanger, so if that bothers you, wait until the second book comes out before you start this one.

A year free and the animosities between the two existed.Harper has a great best friend, Zia. Hilarious. She has double dared Harper to accept the invitation to the club and the promises made by Mr. Anonymous.This is such a great story. Really loved it. It grabs you as soon as you start reading it. Want more......Please!

Very sensual and sexy story. Alex sees Harper while she is catering at a BDSM club. He sends her an invitation and her best friend talks her into going. She meets Alex and he blindfolds her and has her go into a room. There she finds out they aren't alone and Alex's friend Jeremy is there. While she is nervous about a 3-some, she is also intrigued. Harper has a good time but thinks that is all and goes about her life. She is contacted again by Alex and they see each other a few more times. Harper has secrets and is trying to stay out of the limelight. Alex is trying to figure her out and why he feels such an attachment to her. This is an author that I have loved reading from the first book I picked up of hers. I never hesitate to pick up one of her books. I love being pulled into the story by the characters. This book is no different. This is a well written story where the author's use of details gave the story a realistic feel. The characters are creative, unique and relateable. I enjoyed how the brought the story to life and kept it engaging. This is a story about Harper and Alex. One invitation and steamy sex turn into something neither one of them seen coming. They have great chemistry and growth throughout the story. They are my favorite and enjoyed what they brought to the story. This is the first book in this series and I can't wait to read the second book. This is a must read story and I highly recommend it.

Oh, this had lots of murkiness going on right below the surface. What is not hidden in any way is the sizzling attraction between Harper and Alex, that is there everytime they get anywhere near each other. They are hot together, and while Harper is going with the flow, even when she thinks she should stop, Alex is acting on pure instinct. His instincts tell him Harper is his, so he does what he needs to do to make her his. He isn't upfront on what he does for a living. She isn't truthful with him on her past. We end on a cliffhanger where her past catches up to her, and I need to know what happens in part two right now!

Book one in two book series, I knew this before reading so I didn't mind the cliffhanger ending. I am looking forward to reading book two! Harper is running from her past and doesn't have time for relationships. Alex is used to getting exactly what he wants and doesn't usually want someone more than one night. Harper catches his attention and he is surprised by her and his reaction to her. Harper is interested in Alex but she is unsure if she can be what he needs, or if she can even fit into his lifestyle. There are some misunderstandings and lack of communication before the cliffhanger ending.....

'Merciless Sinner' is book one in E. M. Gayle's "Mafia Mayhem" Duet. What an exhilarating story this one has turned out to be! A tragic backstory, a new beginning, a mobster's stepson, a cop, a new beginning, and a chemistry between the Hero and heroine that becomes all-consuming. There was no way once I started reading that I could put this down until it was finished and now I desperately want to know the outcome of the cliffhanger and all the open-ended situations. If you want more than just a book that contains erotic scenes and a hint of the dark, this one has substance with a bite.

When Alex pursues Harper, neither has any idea what it will do to their lives. Their chemistry is palpable and sizzling hot. Harper is unsure she can, or wants to, be what Alex needs and wants. Will she push him away or give him her submission? For such a dominant man, Alex is surprisingly caring and sweet. Not, what I expected. Great well written steamy and enjoyable book. I like the new approach to the theme. The characters are likeable and well described. They have a great chemistry.I like the intensy and darkness it has. It is written in dual POV which also gives the reader a lot more of the thoughts and feelings of the main characters and that results in the reader getting a lot more out of the story.The mix of drama, unexpected twists, amazing chemistry, passion, and love keeps the reader on the edge. It is captivating and enjoyable.

What starts with a steamy Valentine's Day rendezvous starts to become so much more. You can always count on E.M. Gayle to deliver one heck of a sexy ride with enough emotional connection to make it seem real, and Alex and Harper's story is no different--I was rooting for them from the beginning. That said, the story just felt more forced than I expect from E.M. Gayle. It's still a solidly enjoyable three star read, but definitely of the quick-and-dirty kind. This IS part one in a duet, so know that things end on a cliffhanger.

Oh, Alex.... You met a woman who is innocent but with a backbone. She has not made it easy on you and therefore you want it even more. You made her fantasy come true and secured a place in her heart but you could not handle it. You both thought it would be a one night stand but life throws you curveballs.This is a great book, I very much enjoyed reading it. It does have a cliffhanger, but I was hooked from the first couple of pages.Alex for a lack of a better word is very yummy.

Alex is a man on a mission as he plans a night full of pleasure for Harper. He saw her across the room and couldn't stay away. They think this would be a one night stand and nothing more. Little did they know that it would be something more. Through the story, we get some background on Harper but everything is not revealed. Harper and Alex story is part 1 so we only are just getting to know them. They have that spark that ignites into some serious hot sex but as we get to know these characters outside of the sex, issues arise.Then just as I'm getting really into it, that cliff sneaks up. I knew about it but as I said I was really into the book so I was bummed but I'm waiting because I need to know!!!!I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
