Amelyn Randall ~ Double-Edged Words Book Blog

Another winner by Eliza Gayle! The half point was taken only because I didn't emotionally connect with the main characters. I can't pinpoint why...normally I would cry reading a story like this. The story was solid. Many secrets were revealed in the continuing story that's weaving through this series, and I can't wait to find out more! The next book is available, and I'm stepping right up to read it!I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Loved that Levi didn't stop when pushed away and come to terms with not only his demons but those of the people he loves.

"Levi's Ultimatum" is the second in the Purgatory Masters series. (I think I read in the first book that this is to be a trilogy series, but I don't know if that is still the actual plan because I can't find anything about it on Eliza Gayle's website.) At the end of "Tucker's Fall" we find out that Levi has been missing for three weeks... and at the start of Levi's story, we find out exactly where he has been. Upon his return, he stops at Nina's cafe and runs into Tori and her daughter, Hannah - and falls HARD for both of them. Imagine his surprise when later he runs into Tori... at Purgatory... as a DOMME.This is an interesting slant - a single Mom with full-time responsibility for a young child & how a BDSM relationship will fit into that scenario. Good thing that Grandma is nearby... eh? In between all the mysteries that surround Levi (& the other Masters), Catori is also hiding a pretty shocking secret - and Eliza Gayle does a great job at keeping the suspense up without making the reader get to the point that they want to scream, "Get to the point!!". (Yeah, I'm snarky AND impatient.) There are a few things that I just didn't find too plausible; don't read this part if you aren't prepared for a spoiler... but... really? A woman who has been catatonic for ten years can get up & hold a press conference? And if the facility knew Levi was such an involved & interested son, I just REALLY can't imagine why he would NOT have been alerted the SECOND his mother "snapped out of it". I don't know if this is something that will be addressed in the book covering Mason or not - but I'll just suspend my disbelief and not think about it. Too much. This is about 200 pages; about 50 shorter than Tucker's Fall but still an awesome read! Just be prepared for nipple clamps, bondage, clothing deprivation, spanking and talk of (past) canings. (That's your warning.) OH, and let's not forget my "disclaimer" - I had asked Eliza Gayle for a copy of this to read & review... and when she sent me the beta copy, I realized I had already purchased it. Oops. Mom brain strikes again.Go ahead & pick up copies for yourself of this series -- it's really good BDSM romantica with a suspense twist to it! THUMBS UP!

Having read the first book in this series, I was quite interested in the second book. Apparently there are several other books set in or around Purgatory prior to this particular series. Based on the strength of these first two books, I may well have to go look up the others.Levi is a man haunted by his past. He is one of several sons of a notorious evangelist who bilked the public and has spent his lifetime trying to avoid that legacy, traveling the globe, joining the Marines, etc. Finally though he decides to go home and that's when he runs into Tori and her adorable daughter.I'm not a big fan of kids in books because a lot of the time they serve no purpose in the plot other than to be adorable moppets but they're not really important to the story. In this case, the daughter was because of her repulsive father who ends up trying to kidnap her in order to blackmail Levi and his brothers.Tori is a strong woman. She knows she is submissive, yet acts as a Domme at Purgatory. Levi of course isn't fooled by that and from the very first scene at Purgatory, wowser, I needed a fan. There was some hot action in this book, and it didn't even lead to consummation in the early sections of the book. Yeesh.Poor Levi. Sucks to be him at times, but he was on the right path, going home to face down what he's spent his lifetime running from. He's a good man, despite what some might think instinctively just because he's got some tattoos. Tori certainly didn't mind the tatts. Heh.So, yeah. I loved this book and I liked getting to see the couple from the first book continuing on in their relationship. I hope the third one comes out soon! Total 4-star rating here.Book provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a good read but do not start here. This series is all about the past impacting the present and has a very strong series story arc which was introduced in book 1, Tucker’s Fall. And no, it’s not resolved in this one, either – but we do get more details and hints in this one. All we really know for sure is something BAD happened in the past which shattered the lives of the participants. The series arc is not resolved but Levi and Tori’s story? Oh yeah, nice ending. If you like your heroes tortured and little twisted, Levi is the guy for you. But although the whole BDSM thing is an integral part of the story [and definitely steams up the sex scenes], it’s not what the story is about. I like that. It tells the story of two people who are kinked but not solely about kink. Hannah is a five-year-old who’s willing to share her crayons. Tori is first and foremost a single mom who loves her daughter and bakes the world’s best pies. Levi is a guy who spent the last years of his life running from his past and is now trying to find a future. They all just want to belong. And they do – to each other, of course, although [inevitably] it takes awhile for that to work out. It’s a good read and I look forward to the sequels [when hopefully the big secrets will be revealed.]Purgatory Masters Series:Tucker’s FallLevi's UltimatumMason’s RuleI received this ARC from NetGalley…

**Book received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**This book had everything I look for in a book in this genre. It had steamy sex scenes, humour and suspense. Although the book has a BDSM theme, this is not what the book is about and that is a big bonus. The BDSM is written as a sexual preference for the characters rather than the book solely being around what `BDSM scenes' can be told in detail.I love the way the suspense is written into the storyline and the fact that you were kept guessing through the book as to what would happen next. I loved being able to try and piece things together page by page and you literally do page turn with this book. I was slightly disappointed in the way that the situation with Bill was dealt with and I would have loved that to have been expanded on.The characters are real and so easy to connect with; they could be your own friends. The emotions that the characters experience are palpable and you find yourself sitting there with tears in your eyes or your own heart pounding in response to what the characters are feeling. The book takes you in to its reality and leaves you with a book hangover and eagerly anticipating the next book in the series. That's another thing I love about this book is that it drops subtle hints as to other storylines that can and hopefully will be picked up in another book.I am a big fan of alternative POV's in a book and there are a few in this book. It's not often and not enough alternates to confuse the reader.

Levi's Ultimatum by Eliza Gayle is book two of the Purgatory Masters series.I think it would have been easier if I read the first book of the series because it seems to leave off where the first book left off which leaves the reader hanging in confusion for most of the time but I don't think it takes away from the story at all since it seems to build up the anticipation of what happened even more.Levi's Ultimatum was a really intense book, from the get go you're thrown into a mysterious situation between friends that happen to favor the Dom/ Sub love life when a secret they hold is at risk of being exposed.I really feel sorry for Tori through the story because Levi really comes across as overbearing and harsh but as soft hearted as she is, she seems to also have a side of her that is drawn to Levi's redeeming characteristics. But there is something about Levi and Tori that seem to mesh well together as they begin to open up to each other. Tori lets Levi in closer to both her and her daughter and Levi begins to bring Tori back closer to his sexual tastes.Readers should be aware there is some really intensely detailed adult situations involving a BDSM club and Dom/ Sub lifestyles. If those topics make you squeamish this might not be the book for you. For all the kinky fiends you will love this book.
