This flute arrived yesterday, and at that first, resonant bass A, I was a goner. This is my eighth High Spirits flute, and I have charmed many people with my bass C, a walnut flute that I have called my "crowd-pleaser." But oh my, this cedar flute maintains a rich tonal quality throughout its range, and that low A note is absolutely delicious. It does take quite a bit of breath, and players with small hands might find the spread of the finger holes challenging (just under a three-inch spread for each set of three holes). But I consider my hands an average (male) size, and I don't find the spacing difficult.
I'm looking forward to exploring all that this flute can produce. To quote Humphrey Bogart, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
