To be honest, when I first got this flute and played it indoors, I was a teeny bit disappointed that it didn't seem to have the full range of my other HS traditional flutes. The higher notes felt a little bit breathy to me. However, I do about half my playing outdoors when I stop to relax along my hikes. For some reason, the design of this flute allows me to hold a clear tone even in windy conditions when my other flutes get drowned out--or when they get muted by moisture after a few minutes. The smaller/higher traditional flutes are also great for outdoor use, but the low ones get more easily interfered with by the breezes (unless you can kind of hunch over slightly with your back to the wind). And that low sound is terrific out in the woods or by the sea. This flute seems to be very well-suited to that situation. Of course, if you have the money, big enough breath and hands, and play mostly indoors--I would encourage getting the traditional Condor E or D. If you like a low tone and play a lot outside, this Spirit Flute is a good fit.
