HAVING YOUR POLES WITH YOU, IS A PRIORITY AND THESE MAKE IT EASY Bad knees and hiking mean, you look like a 4-legged animal going up and especially down a mountain path. Also if your balance is not great, these work for that stream crossover that’s a bit tricky. Having had poles that adjusted in the past, I found they could be tricky and you didn’t want to adjust them often. The adjustment range would be degraded. These have the same type of adjustment that the camera tripods have and is easy to change and solid. There is also a means of easily tightening the clasp in case it slips. I store these in my car for the random hike. I had tried to do that with my other poles, that don’t adjust easily, or the one that does not adjust at all and it was like travelling with a spear. Never found a good spot, so they ended up out of the car and were never around when I needed them. When you have an SUV (like a lot of hikers do), trunk space is limited. I was always worried we would toss something in the back and bend one of my poles. ABOUT THESE POLES You get: **** 2 adjustable poles **** Sand traps, threaded on **** Snow traps, threaded on **** Rubber tips, pressed on **** Pointed ends (part of the pole) **** Nylon straps (adjustable) **** Clips to hold poles together for storage (2) GRIPS They have molded cork grips with nylon strap adjustments. Having already been spoiled by this type of grip, it is nice and holds well for sweaty hands. Let’s face it hike = sweat. And once you have dropped a pole down an incline, you learn how to rely on the straps. BOTTOMS You have some choices: Pointy end or rubber caps Sand or snow trap You can combine them as you see fit. I tend to go with rubber ends and sand traps. My only concern with the rubber ends, is pulling them off and losing them. Wish they were threaded on. I can recall on some hikes in the Adirondacks where the tip of my poles would get wedged between rocks going downhill. These would just pull off. ADJUSTMENT You have two levels and markings on both, so you can repeat them. This comes in handy if you shorten up the poles for storage like I do or if more than one person uses them. The adjustments are like a tripod clasp with a large nut knurled for tightening. I’ve learned, you tighten the knurled nut when the clasp is open for best tightness. You then test your weight on it, before you depend on it. If you put both adjustments to the 39”/100cm mark, the top of your grip is at 39”/100cm. And similar for the other measurements SUMMARY These are nice solid easily adjusted poles. I heard other reviewers complain about weight. As I am not a through packer or even backpacker, they are fine for my purposes for day hikes. The only complaint I have is: I wish I had a bag to store them, so I can be sure not to lose pieces. Also I wish the rubber tips were threaded on, as I’m certain to lose one. I even had one come off in the car.

This is my first set of trekking poles. I picked them up for my wife and I as we do a lot of walking. Much of the time we're on pavement, but we often do power walks on the beach and want to do more hiking off-road as well. The stylish Tiger Paw 7075 Trekking Poles seem like the perfect fit. This offering from Mons Peak IX is impressive right out of the box. They ship fully compacted and attached via two plastic clips that you can use to store them together. No carry case or bag is included, but that's not a deal breaker. They fit easily in a vehicle's trunk or in mid-sized luggage. I found their aluminum construction to be very lightweight yet with enough heft that they are comfortable to use. Height is adjusted using two lever-locks and easily hand-tighted nuts. Tighten the nuts just enough so that it isn't too hard to snap the lever in place and they stay put when locked even after a long walk. The proper height is where your elbow is a 90˚ angle when holding the grip. Said grip is ergonomically contoured and made from ultra absorbent cork that stays grippy and dry feeling even when my hand sweats in the humid South Florida summer heat. The integrated strap is adjustable and provides confidence that you won't drop your pole accidentally. Also, having them in hand feels as though they lend to wider strides and thus enhances the workout experience. The metal spikes on the ends are covered by a removable rubber nibs for flat surface trekking. I wonder how long these will hold up, but so far wear is minimal. They come with "baskets" for snow or sand which I'll definitely be using for beach power walks. There are no instructions for how to adjust the poles and straps or to install the baskets, but it is fairly easy to figure out. There are numbers on the poles for height adjustment, but I guess you need to do some research if you want to use them. I didn't need to. In summation, these poles are purpose built and look the part. They command respect from others on the trail, and can be handy when encountering unfriendly wildlife (or persons with bad intentions). My wife was bitten by a dog while out for a walk once, and wishes she had the Tiger Paw in that instance. It also isn't uncommon for alligators, coyotes, and snakes to share the pathways in our areas. The 7505 is added insurance in case of such encounters. I would only suggest using them in defense as a last resort however -- it is better to give such creatures wide berth if possible. Despite their light weight and adjustable nature, the Mons Peak IX Tiger Paw 7075 Trekking Poles are solidly constructed tools for hiking. If you're hoofing it over long distance and uneven terrain, they can be lifesavers. ~ Kort

My left knee reminded on a recent hike with my family that it doesn’t like hiking down hill, and I took it easy but I still had a painful descent on the steep parts. I had been wanting to get a pair of trekking poles so got these to help with my knees. These poles are made from sturdy aluminum, with aluminum lever locks and easy to read height markings. The pair weighs about 1.2 pounds, collapses down to 25” long, and extents up to 53” with two extensions. There aren’t any instructions included, but youtube has many good tutorials for newbies. The markings on the tubes will tell you the height of the poles if you set both to the same number. For example, if you set both sections to 120 / 47 then total pole height will be 120cm or 47 inches. It’s nice way to quickly set them to the height you want. The lever locks were very loose when I first received the poles, but they are easy to adjust without tools by turning the burled nut on the back of the lever. Be sure to tighten them so they don't slip when you put your full weight on them. These poles don’t appear to have a left or right. The straps are the same and I find that the padding in the strap is too short and leaves part of my thumb rubbing up on the woven nylon strap. This set comes with wide and narrow baskets for snow or general use and also comes with rubber tips if you’re using them in sensitive areas. This set doesn’t come with a carry bag but does come with two plastic clips you can use to keep the poles together during storage. Pro - sturdy construction - cork handles - lever locks - easy to read height markings - carbide steel tips Con - not enough strap padding for thumb - no carry bag - many cheaper poles on the market seem to have most of the features of these poles.

There are no instructions, so I will say this: the height should be set at where your hand in the cork holder makes your arm form a 90 degree L, not a v ,but where your fore arm is parallel to the ground. I'm the sort of person who marks them for an easy way to tell each time the right length. These are very sturdy and fairly light weight, I thought at first they were a bit heavy, but separated they are pretty light. They have an attractive high tech look. The flip locks are easy, but be sure and tighten the finger bolts on the back of the lock. They are easy to tighten. There are numbers to help with the height, but I didn't need them, I just set them for my arm height. Not sure how to use the numbers as there was no instructions. The cork handles are comfortable and a good grip with sweaty hands and the straps are a plus. You can switch off the rubber tips and sand baskets (the little round disk over the end) easily for the ski pole baskets, under the rubber tips is a pointy tip for the snow. The rubber tip seems pretty rugged and will last for awhile, although I don't know, some people walk with these all the time, it will definitely shorten the life of the rubber tip, I only use them for situations where balance may be an issue, like crossing a creek or something. This is of course personal preference and dependant on balance issues. My only wish is, instructions for people who've never used trek poles and a small bag to store the baskets and tips when not in use. I like the poles and I recommend them

Hi Rowan you got the set-up correct! Quick pointer -- when you adjust for height keep the numbers same on both middle and lower section for maximum strength. The numbers correspond to height in inches / centimeters. So next time you know where to set it quickly rather than measuring again.

www.backpackgeartest.org - 25 year veteran backpacker - Brian Hartman - Excerpts The Tiger Paws always had good grip. The carbide tips worked well in hard dirt and when hiking off-trail while the rubber tips never slipped on pavement. I typically used the rubber tips on rock although certain times I used the carbide tips, and they seemed to work equally well. The poles were sturdy enough to support my full weight more than a few times when my feet slipped out from under me on steep off-trail descents. They also supported my weight when hiking across streams on slippery rocks. I never felt leery of putting significant weight on the poles and often used them to brace myself when going downhill on steep trails and switchbacks, so my knees didn’t take the impact. At all times the compression locks were rock-solid to the point where the thought of them slipping didn’t even cross my mind. I applaud Mons Peak on an excellent lock design that works great in the field. The Tiger Paws were a joy to test throughout the past four months. They were strong, lightweight, and easy to open and close whenever needed. In addition, they were comfortable to use for hours on the trail and I never missed the fact that they didn’t have shock absorbers. When I’m not using them on the trail, I strap them to the back of my pack so they’re ready at a moment’s notice and certain to be included on all my hiking trips.

www.backpackgeartest.org - Michigan backcountry backpacker and camper - Robb Pratt - Excerpts These poles are well-build and feel very solid. They also look beautiful and are well crafted. I like the feel of the cork handles and the latch system. Once I figured it out. I used it to easily change the lengths of the poles. I really like the Tiger Paws 7075 Trekking Poles. I think the deciding factor for me is the cork handles. They have a great feel to them and the multiple sections in the handle allow me to switch my grip based on the terrain without constantly fiddling with the set lengths. I also like how the strap lengths adjusted very easily on the go and supported my wrists during extended hikes. Overall, I am very pleased with how the Mons Peak IX Tiger Paw 7075 performed..... While I was disappointed that one of the performance baskets fell off, after I hand tightened the remaining one, I did not have any additional issues with this one loosening. I have found the cork handles fit my hands quite nicely and I prefer them over my old foam-handle poles. I also have not had any trouble with the latching system. The lengths are easy to change and once re-latched, the poles have not loosened (other than when I first tried them out). I am happy to say I will be using these poles over my old poles for future backpacking trips.

I got these through the Amazon Vine program to review. These are amazing trekking poles, I used them on a recent hiking trip and they worked great. They are a bit heavier than the Black Diamond Z-Z poles I normally use but I love that they are adjustable in size. They can be configured to have the spike bottom, basket bottom, or rubber foot. Very nice that they snap together for easy carrying. I also really loved the cork hand grips. They are very easy to adjust the height and have markers on the poles so you can easily adjust to the same height again. This was great because both my husband and son could use these poles with a quick height adjustment. Overall these are really nice trekking poles. They are great if a lot of people could be using the same set of poles. They aren't awesome if you are really budgeting for weight or space. If you are looking for something really lightweight that is sized for just one person I would spend a bit more money and get the Black Diamond Distance Carbon Z Z-Poles, 110. Pros: - Adjustable height - Easy to adjust - Versatile (spike, basket, and rubber ends) - Love the cork grips - Poles snap together for storage Cons: - Heavier than my Black Diamond Z-Z Poles - Bulkier than Z-Z poles - No place to store basket ends, will probably get lost - No carrying or storage bag included.
