I do NOT have any affiliation with Active Controls but this plug-in soft start is nothing less than great. As part of the Whole House kit, it allows for us to use everything and never skip a beat. Milton was like nothing ever happened. I also just had to know if it would start my 5-ton AC - AND IT DID, using a Duromax XP13000HX on gasoline. It did not give the same reduction as the wired in ACS4W40 (of 76-77%) but it still worked. The takeaway from that is I fully believe that the ACS50PS will work with smaller AC units, saving lots of money for those that must pay for someone to install a soft start AND still be able to use the washer, and dishwasher, etc. Here is a BONUS - the ACS50PS comes with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY, not 12 months. The ACS50PS also has EMS that allows the user to see how much power is being used and on which leg, frequency, voltage, etc. Originally designed and marketed for RV use, it works extremely well in a residential power outage situation. I was hesitent to purchase at first due to the cost, but factor in the cost of individual Softstarts for each AC, installation if not completed yourself, surge protector + ems, and in the end it essentially costs the same as the ActiveStart 50AMP. I tested both a Coleman Mach 15 and a Mach 3+ (13k btu version), one at a time while on a single 15amp 120v receptical and they both functioned perfectly. I have yet to try it on a 30amp with both running, but I don't doubt that they will. The app seems to function well, and being a techie, I enjoy seeing the voltages, amps, watts, etc change based on what is running. As a side project, I am also investigating using this with the 50amp hookup at my house since I run a manual lockout transfer switch for a generator. I have a new, high efficiency 4 ton heatpump I'd like to start on a 30amp hookup from the generator. To test this, I need to purchase a 30amp L14-30P Plug to 50 Amp 4-Prong 14-50R Adapter cord yet.

I have the 50 Amp soft start and it will run 2 of my AC's when I'm on a 30 amp service. Also I can run all 3 of my AC's when I connect my two generators in parallel. I tried to run them with just a power protector and it would throw a breaker on one of the generators. I'm using 2 Champion 4500 watt generators. This device will really help when I need to boon dock. I am constantly trying to let others know they don't have to install soft starts on their AC's anymore. I've been using the product for 6 months with no issues.

Our soft start 50 AMP Surge Protector does exactly as it says so. We have a 2024 Grand Design Reflection 150 270 BN with 2 a/c's. While plugged into a 30 amp pedestal at a camping site, we can run both airs and quite a few lights. With one a/c we can also run the microwave as well as a electric hot water heater for tea. While mooch docking, we can run 1 a/c while plugged into a 15 amp plug at a house. We had a 50 amp plug added to the side of our house and when I plugged in the surge protector to check after installation, I got a light issue that showed the electrician had reversed the wires when installed. Easy to fix, but I would have never know this without the Active Control surge protector. It is expensive, but quality, safety, and convenience before price.

They started off with problems with reliability problems as on would expect with a new product, I've had to send mine back for the 4th time in the first year of ownership, the support is wonderful and each time they have been great at solving the problem. I realize that the "bugs" in manufacturing such an innovative product are difficult, and I'm sure these problems will straighten themselves out!
