Happy Reading & Watching

This was a lovely, short, fast-paced story. It's been over a year since I read anything by Jennie Goutet. I'm happy to see a new series from her. I am looking forward to the sisters' love stories.📚 📖246 pages /🎧 3 hr (2x speed)

This is my favorite story if Jennie's. Well done. A different type of story from many others. I love her different plot types.

An interesting plot, with good characters, and the London season for a back drop. I enjoyed it all...except for the young Lord Pool, who will no doubt appear in the rest of the series. At 14, he is the typical spoiled upper class young man. But he was will hopefully provide entertainment as he ages!

This is a delightful clean romance. Her writing is truly inspiring and beautiful for this time period. It took a little while to get into the story but I overall really enjoyed it and I’m excited to read/listen to more from this author!!

A Brilliant Match was such an enjoyable beginning to a new clean Regency series. I listened to the audio version of this story and thought that the narrator did a very good job. Dorothea and Miles each had certain objectives when they came to London. Although Miles did not desire to have to marry for money, his estate was in dire need of funds. Dorothea was very focused on making what she had been taught was a good match, meaning marrying a peer. These two didn’t plan to fall in love, but it was clear that the attraction was there right from their first meeting. I really felt for them both. Dorothea had a lot to learn about matters of the heart and it was a sweet journey to see her discover what really mattered. And Miles was such a great character. I liked that he valued what he felt for Dorothea more than money. They had a rocky road to finding happiness and I wondered how the author would bring a solution around that was believable, but she did! I am looking forward to reading more books in this series and following along as Dorothea’s siblings find happiness. I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book that I have read (technically, I listened to the audiobook!) by Jennie, and I am a fan. I love an enthralling Regency read. I quickly fell in love with Miles's gentleness and kindness towards Dorothea. Their goals for marriage were so different. I love that Dorothea wrote Miles off from the beginning, but their chemistry was always there! I love how Miles wanted to take care of his mom. She was living in a crumbling estate, and he wanted to marry a lady with a large dowry to fix up the estate and take care of his mom. I also loved Dorothea's relationships with her family, especially her sister. Jennie did a great job of including historical accuracy, romance, and personal growth in this story. Stevie Zimmerman did a great job narrating this story. Her voices were so good! One of the voices reminded me of Susannah Harker as Jane Bennett in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice TV mini-series. I recommend this book! *This is a clean closed-door Regency romance book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this sweet regency era story. I listened to it, and the narration was so well done. I enjoy this author because I can count on her stories to be sweet, clean, and low stress. Think of a regency era Hallmark story. It will leave a smile on your face and your spirit lifted. *I was given a copy of this book to listen to, and this is my honest opinion.

I loved this new book by Jennie Goutet. It is beautifully written. The growth in maturity and self-awareness experienced by both of the main characters kept me involved and revealed them both as admirable people. I'm looking forward to the stories of the young Earl and his other sisters as well.

I enjoyed this book. I didn't like the heroine at first but she grew on me. Nice exploration of romance where money and titles were part of the mix.

I usually find this author's books well-written and engaging. I usually enjoy the chemistry between her characters. This book didn't even feel like her writing. It was dry; I was the opposite of engrossed. There was no chemistry and the characters were not very likeable. I couldn't understand Miles' attraction to Dorothea. I'm sorry to say that the spark was missing both in the story and the writing of this book.

The story is much more interesting than one gleaned from the synopsis, and it feels true to the period. I enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next one in the series.

As usual, Jennie has writes a splendid story in which the deep character development creates authentic personalities. Miles is my favorite for the honorable way in which he behaves with charm, kindness, and confidence. Even though he is in search of a wife, he wants a love match despite his pecuniary considerations. Unfortunately, he almost immediately realizes Dorothea is the woman he wants. However, she seeks a brilliant match to a rich husband who has a title. Her reasons are due to her planning futures for her sisters to be brilliant. To complicate matters, her brother is a teenage Earl who is determined to do anything he desires regardless of propriety. Miles walks a thin line in revealing his situation. His cousin, Viscount Robert Throckmorton, is the heir to their grandfather, the Earl of Pembroke. “Rock” is very key to the climax in this story. Honesty and thoughtfulness are among Miles’ best qualities, so he is careful in what he says. When he trusts the truth to Dorothea, he suffers rejection. Actually, she has many opportunities to witness how gallant and thoughtful Miles really is. So hope survives. There is a climax well worth the wait. Then a very unique proposal happens. I am sincerely glad to know I will again meet these characters in the next books of this series !

I enjoyed this story very much, but to be honest it took a bit to fully grab me. I had to get to “know” the characters and then I was invested. A strong story plot with characters that kept me interested in their story. Both the hero and heroine were considered “unsuitable “ by society. One by lack of title and wealth. The other without connections and knowledge of society. Where they both lacked, they had what the other needed. One had charm and knowledge of social expectations and the other had wealth and title. While their paths crossed and sparks fly there seems to be a big difference and divide that is between them that keeps them apart. I loved the self discovery and growth the characters had and how they changed for the better. I look forward to seeing the remaining family members find their own happiness in future books.
