An absorbing story with a riveting and informative description of the events leading up to and the battle at Waterloo.

She has loved him for years but nobody knew. He thought of her as his best friend little sister but an encounter in Brussels during the last campaign of the napoleonic wars makes him fall in love with the woman she has become. Too much detail about the battle of Waterloo but interesting insights about life in Brussels in 1815.

I really liked this storyline and setting. It was different than many of the Regency romance novels out there because it was set in Belgium during the Battle at Waterloo. It reminded me of Thackeray’s “Vanity Fair” a little but the characters were much different. This authors writing style really makes you feel as though you are actually in the Regency period which I really liked. About 15-20% of the novel is dedicated to the battle which was too much for me. It did add a lot realism and heartbreak to the story, but I don’t read this genre for that. I would have preferred a love triangle or old flame showing up or less description of the battle scenes. This was binge worthy reading and I look forward to reading other books by this author.

Excellent book with a sweet love story and a great account of Waterloo. I enjoyed both Lord Ingram and Phoebe. If I could complain, I do wish we got more dialogue between them and less narration.
