Oh how I loved this story of romance, excitement, traveling. Phobe took a daring step and found herself. War brings such horror & sadness.

I loved this book so much, It’s my favorite from the series. Phoebe was such a unexpected , wonderful heroine. I loved how she came out of her shell but remained modest, kind, with a quiet strength. Frederick, what can I say but be still my heart! He was a amazing hero!! Strong, protective and kind. Their love story was so heart warming! His declaration of love before he left for battle was swoon worthy 🥰 I loved Lydia and Fritz together. I didn’t want this book to end, being reunited with Tunstalls, Aston’s, Ingrams and FitzWilliams made this perfect. I would love a Christmas novella someday , so we could see all their lovely romances continue!

I liked that characters from the prior two books made appearances in this story, too. Characters well written and likeable. Story plots have substance in addition to romance.

I have just completed the series and I really loved each book. They are clean with a hint of spirituality. There is hope , grace, and of course love . I loved how she incorporated the battle of Waterloo in the last book . Thank you Jennie Goutet for these wonderful books.

I was so worried for the main characters who were facing Napoleon in the battle that I finally asked my husband if Napoleon won or lost after he escaped Elba. Larry said he was defeated at Waterloo. Then I found out where Waterloo was in relation to Brussels where the story was centered. I was able to calmly enjoy the end of the book. Everything fit together so well in this story. It was very enjoyable.

I didn't think a later book could equal the quality of the 2nd book in this series. I am happy to confess I was wrong. I am impressed by Goutet's research, and how she introduced so many historical facts without stripping the characters and book of humanity and liveliness. I majored in history in college, and my hat is off to you, Ms. Goutet. This is not just historical fiction - the romance is very sweet and believable, too. Looks like another book I will need to purchase in paperback. :)

LOVED IT!! A great conclusion to the series “Memorable Proposals”…that being said this book can be read as a stand alone. But honestly, do yourself a favor and read them all in sequence. The author does an excellent job of creating characters that come to life and plot lines that keep the reader engaged. She does so well that her world became real before my mind’s eye. She does a discrete job of writing about the horror of war but does not become gruesome. The discovery of inner strength is a great theme throughout and a lovely romance to round it all out.

This was without a doubt a page turner! It was hard to put down and was a thrilling ride to the end! I totally loved Phoebe's character! She had despaired of becoming a spinster, but then at the invitation of a friend, she daringly decides to go to Brussels. She comes alive, and finds that she quite enjoys being out of the shadow of her twin sister - and in the limelight - now with suitors to spare! I so enjoyed Fredrick becoming aware of Phoebe as a woman - instead of just the quiet and shy sister of his friend that he grew up with. He's mesmerized and smitten! The author must have done a great deal of historical research to provide such an amazing portrayal of Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo. It was engaging and informative. With the descriptions of war, there is a bit of talk about blood and death. The romance between Phoebe and Fredrick is sweet and clean with some nice kissing. No bad language. This was a riveting read that made me feel like I had walked the streets of Brussels and toured across the countryside - and smelled the gunpowder. Very well written and I highly recommend it! 💜

The characters really came alive in this book. I loved that we knew and felt their fears, joy and love. The history of the battle of Waterloo became very real with getting to know the patriotic leaders in a personal way. They demonstrated courage, knowledge and caring!! The leading lady of this novel did throughly Shine!! Dashing and Daring was the leading man!! I recommend this as an excellently written novel that will keep you up reading late at night and find you sneaking to read it in the daytime just to check in on your people!!

I loved Phoebe and Frederick and how much they learned from each other. Phoebe starts out shy and kind of willing to please everyone around her, but I love that with each chapter she finds her courage and really, herself. I can't really call Frederick blind because Phoebe is so incredibly able to hide her feelings for so long. It was especially interesting to learn about the British presence in Belgium and the Battle at Waterloo. Very sad but fascinating part of history that was neat to experience in this story.

I’ve been waiting for this book and am not disappointed! Phoebe’s story is not a smooth path. It is one of overcoming fears, habits and expectations from others. As Phoebe steps out of her comfort zone, she finds the possibility of the life she has dreamed of and the courage to be courageous. Humor interspersed into a story of good clean romance and an excellent overview of the battle of Waterloo. Thank you Jennie Goutet for all your research!

Check your history book! Secret longing cannot always be pushed aside for Phoebe's heart is stronger than anything society, country or family might demand. Frederick's fears are almost as great as his stubborn determination to honor his loyalty to Country and do his Duty. He finds himself in the grasp of fate's whims. Youthful desires are at the heart of this story. Enjoy.

She has loved him for years but nobody knew. He thought of her as his best friend little sister but an encounter in Brussels during the last campaign of the napoleonic wars makes him fall in love with the woman she has become. Too much detail about the battle of Waterloo but interesting insights about life in Brussels in 1815.
