Wonderful! This is what I’m looking for when I want a historical romance. Clean, wholesome, and uplifting, with enough tension and issues to solve that it’s not boring at all!

Intriguing
I like the way that the father and Phillip came together to find Honoria but that it was the father finding out about the fire and Phillip saving her life that really brought him around to say yes to their marriage

This book was fun, engaging, full of adventure, clean in words, and best of all, the writing was well done.

The story had a nice plot that was carried through. The characters were well developed and the reader is not bogged down by too many emotions. It was a good balance.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a lovely book, with a lovely story, with lovely characters. There were challenges and struggles that were creatively intertwined in the pages of this book. I encourage you to read this sweet story and learn about these brave characters.

First, I was a bit perplexed with the style of this book as it deviated a bit from fast- paced, emotionally charged Regency novels abundant for purchase. However, as I dove in, I realised the dialogues, the details, some of the emotional reserve fully captures the true Regency style we can easily see in JA’s books. I loved the story, the characters, the realistic development of the feelings, as well the simple less dramatic continuity. I found myself relating more to the family dynamics, relationships, and less dramatic but very interesting story. Because let’s be honest, I’m our own lives we don’t face highwaymen or awful, bullying stepfathers but rather everyday challenges we want to overcome with grace.

Her characters are wonderfully complex and come alive in such a way as to make me feel as if they are my neighbors next door. I have greatly enjoyed the well written action and wit of her books.

Adorable characters and a sweet story! It had a bit of the style of Jane Austen's world. Would definitely recommend.

This book just made me happy reading it. Phillip was so kind and swoon worthy and I loved Honoria and her sweet ways. Their romance was so good, I also loved all the secondary characters. I hope Christine’s story is next.

A simple but rewarding story. If you like stories that make you feel light hearted, one that is predictable but still romantic this is a story for you.

A sweet extremely well written tale of love, friendship, and faith. Without all the normal gimmicks so often used in boilerplate historical romance novels, this book kept you turning the pages in anticipation. Anticipation well rewarded!

I cannot tell you how thrilled I am to read a Regency book without the peerage and that focuses on gentry instead. I feel the whole "duke" (and such) thing has been overdone. I really hope for more of these kinds of books. I love Jane Austen books and this has more of that feel. The author did her homework on this era and location. It doesn't feel like a modern book, but set in Regency era. The heroine and hero are both lovable and there is just enough trouble against their HEA, but it is not overdone to where it is ridiculous. Again, it was very refreshing to read a Regency book outside of London and the peerage. I am looking forward to the next in this series. I hope other Regency authors will learn that we readers of this era do not want to be bombarded by books about the peerage constantly. Some are good, but you are leaving out other important classes of that era. Seriously, there were/are only so many dukes, anyway... I just about roll my eyes these days when I see yet another book about a duke, especially a young single one, in love with a woman who "isn't good enough." *Yawn*

Jennie Goutet writes with skill. Her characters seem genuine and have depth and the tone of this book is calm and steady. No nail biting, temper tantrums, evil and conniving women, plotting and overbearing rakehell dukes and not even a kidnapping or forced marriage, no overly detailed sex scenes. And yet, it is a romantic story that entertains in its subtle and more realistic manner. The setting is well researched, the characters come to life, and the reader finishes with a glimpse into another time.

Wow what a great story this one is! I couldn't put it down until I had finished it! So delightful and true to life in the characters and area so much so that you feel like you are there with the sights and sounds of the story. I can't wait for the next one in this series!

I enjoyed this friends-to-more/forbidden romance story. The romance was developed in sweet way, and I really liked the hero and heroine. I quickly sympathized with Philip. He had lost his father and was stuck paying for his father's mistakes, both on the estate and with his neighbor. Still, he was hard-working, fair, and kind, and he appreciated Honoria's talents. I felt for Honoria too, as she was cruelly forced to realize the foolishness of a long-cherished dream. I appreciated how she too was kind and how she made an effort to get along with others, even when it was challenging. I also liked the way she treated her father with respect, even when he wasn't being fair. I also liked the secondary characters, and I look forward to reading more in this series. I recommend this book to anyone who like Regency and/or sweet romance.
