We use this cable coupled with a fagitabout D Lock. The cable easily fits around both bikes and around a stationary object as well. Seems to be a relatively strong cable.

My bike is no prize and doesn't demand maximum security, but I have lost a wheel to thieves, so I lock both wheels with my U-lock, which is where this cable comes in. It's 4' length makes this possible.

As with most locks, this device will slow down and deter some thieves, but will not keep your possessions from being stolen if the thief brings something like a battery powered sawzall or angle grinder. It thwarts (up to a point).
